According to the Economic Survey presented to Parliament on Friday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the agriculture sector is still robust and has been continuously performing far above trend levels.
"In the second quarter of the 2024-2025 fiscal year, the agriculture sector recorded a growth rate of 3.5 per cent" according to the poll. "Agricultural extension is vital in disseminating knowledge; the government is implementing the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Extension (SMAE) and its various components to enhance productivity and promote sustainable agricultural practices."
The poll indicates that high-value industries like fisheries, livestock, and horticulture have emerged as major forces behind the expansion of agriculture.
A total of Rs 1.52 lakh crore was allocated for agriculture and related sectors in the Budget 2024–2025. This was a rise compared to the Rs 1.22 lakh crore allotted in 2023–2024.
